5 books about what it feels like for a woman

Women are supposed to be full of virtues yet women are often excluded from the decision taking process in our society. These are five books about what it feels to be a woman. Men should read them to understand us better and women should read them because they can relate to these stories and understand a little bit more about our story and how much we have been trough as a gender.

5”Jane Eyre” by Charlotte Bronte. Jane is an orphan from a very early age and she goes trough a lot during the novel. Despite of getting little love and appreciation trough her life Jane believes in herself and rejects to be the mistress of the man she is in love with and marry a men she does not love because she knows she deserves better. Reading about Jane reminds us of those women that have been mistreated and abused and are still strong.

4”Little women” by Louisa May Alcott. It's the story of how four young women become adults. It shows how different we can be in our goals, desires, likes and personalities as women but also how much we can love each other despite our differences.

3”Tear this heart out” by Angeles Mastretta. Catalina married too young with a politician that turned out good for her when she was 15 and just wanted protection and a good life but he was all wrong for her when she turned 30 and wanted to do things. Many women face this situation of being with someone that does not believe they are capable of living their own lives. Catalina ends up proving this idea wrong.

2”Madame Bovary” by Gustave Flaubert. One of the best novels of all times. It's the story of Emma Bovary. She married a man she was not in love with and got a life that was not enough for her. It's the constant problem of womanhood to end up dissatisfied just to conform with society.

1”Paula” by Isabel Allende. It's an autobiography that the author wrote for Paula, her dying daughter. It's a real story full of emotions, feelings and thoughts that are those of any woman. There is nothing like an honest story written by the women that lived it to understand what it feels like for a woman in this men's world

  1. I want to add a sixth one, Anna Karenina. Actually, Anna is a very flawed heroine. Nevertheless, it is a fantastic book which shows in a bitter way how the society judges men and women very differently, for the same misbehavior. The worst part is that women are the most cruel to women. That is why I like your article very much. We, women should appreciate ourselves and we should appreciate each other :)
